This page is a snapshot of our university's most recent rankings from national and international surveys. It paints a picture of the quality of the educational experience our graduates say they received, and some very good reasons to choose ECU for future study.

Good Universities Guide

Australian university graduates are surveyed annually about the quality of their university experience and subsequent employment outcomes. The resulting scores are translated into star ratings and are published in the Good Universities Guide.

Undergraduate study

ECU has maintained its long-standing 5-star rating for undergraduate teaching quality for 17 straight years, equal to the best in Australia.

Five-star ratings have also been achieved for students' overall experience, student support, skills development and learning resources.

These undergraduate ratings also put ECU at the top of all Western Australian universities.

Postgraduate study

Our university has rated number one in Australia for postgraduate learning resources, demonstrating our commitment to postgraduate education.

Postgraduate students have also rated ECU highly with five-stars for overall experience, teaching quality, student support, skills development and learning resources.

These postgraduate ratings also put ECU at the top of all Western Australian universities.

ECU has been ranked sixth in Australia in the inaugural AFR list, the only WA university to make the top 10.

Rankings are based on 5 categories: student satisfaction, research performance, global reputation, career impact and equity and access.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings lists the top universities in the world based on their performance in:

  • teaching
  • research
  • knowledge transfer
  • international outlook

In the latest rankings for 2024, ECU has maintained its position as one of the top 400 universities in the world.

THE Young University Rankings lists the world’s best universities aged 50 years old or younger.

ECU is 32 years old in 2023 and is again ranked in the top 100 with an improved position on 2022.

QILT Student Experience Survey

This independent Australian government survey is the only comprehensive review of current higher education students across Australia’s public and private universities.

QILT means Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching. It's based on hundreds of thousands of surveys completed in 2022.

Top experience in Australia

Our students have rated ECU top public university in Australia for their overall experience, skills development and student support in the 2022 QILT Student Experience Survey.

ECU is also ranked top of all Western Australian universities for teaching quality, overall experience, skills development, student support and learning resources survey categories.

ECU graduate employment rate tops all WA universities

The latest Graduate Outcomes Survey shows 93% of our graduates are in full-time employment within 3 years of completing their degrees, above the national average.

  • ECU's highest ranking for employability of graduates is in the fields of Computer and Information Systems, Engineering, Health Services, Nursing and Teacher Education.
  • 71.8% of ECU graduates are in professional or managerial positions within 3 years, a testament to the high quality of our teaching and the job readiness initiatives.
  • Three years after completing their degree, graduates earn the highest average salary of all WA universities at $86,900 a year.

QS World University Rankings by Subject

The QS World University Rankings is a portfolio of comparative university rankings compiled by Quacquarelli Symonds, a higher education analytics firm, based in London.

Excellence in Sport

ECU continues to be highly regarded internationally for Sports related subjects, again being ranked 30th in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022.

Among Australian universities, we’re ranked sixth for Sports related subjects.

For Nursing studies, ECU is again ranked in the global top 100.

Our Performing Arts program also ranks in the top 100 worldwide, equating to second among Australian universities.

Petroleum Engineering has again ranked in the top 150 world-wide.

ECU’s Education subjects are ranked in the 251-300 band globally.

Business and Management studies have been ranked for the first time, appearing in the world-wide 501-550 band.

Good Universities Guide

In the 2023 guide, ECU has maintained its long-standing 5-star rating for teaching quality. It’s now 16 straight years!

For the second time, ECU has been rated 5 stars for postgraduate overall experience, as well as skills development, learning resources, student support and teaching quality.

ECU has achieved 5 stars and the highest ranking in Australia across these categories and disciplines:

  • for teaching quality in the undergraduate Computing and Information Systems and Education and Training disciplines
  • for overall educational experience in the undergraduate Computing and Information Systems discipline

Times Higher Education World University Rankings

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings lists the top universities in the world based on their performance in teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

The latest rankings for 2023 have seen ECU ranked in the top 400 universities in the world for the first time, marking a jump of two category levels from featuring in the top 600 in 2019.

  • Computer Science - ranked in top 400

QILT Student Experience Survey

Our students have rated ECU Australia's top public university for undergraduate teaching quality for the 7th year in a row in the latest QILT rankings (2021 Student Experience Survey).

In fact, ECU topped the rankings for public universities in Australia for undergraduate overall experience, teaching quality, skills development and learning resources.

ECU is also the top ranked university (public or private) in Western Australia for undergraduate overall experience, student support and learning resources.

Additionally, our international undergraduate students have rated ECU the top public university in Australia for overall experience.

The Student Experience Survey National report is the only comprehensive survey of current higher education students in Australia. It is based on hundreds of thousands of surveys completed in 2021 by students from all universities across Australia, both public and private.

For the first time, ECU has been rated 5 stars for postgraduate overall experience and the top WA university.

Other postgraduate 5-star ratings included skills development, learning resources, student support and teaching quality.

ECU has achieved 5 stars and the highest ranking in Australia across these categories and disciplines:

  • for teaching quality in the undergraduate Rehabilitation, and Education and Training disciplines
  • for overall educational experience in the undergraduate Computing and Information Systems, and Education and Training disciplines
  • for overall educational experience and student support in the postgraduate Psychology discipline

Times Higher Education World University Rankings

ECU has maintained its position in the top 500 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2022.

The World University Rankings is an annual list of more than 1000 of the top universities, ranked for their teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

This ranking places ECU in the top 2.5% of universities in the world.

A range of ECU disciplines have ranked globally in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject for 2022:

Times Higher Education Impact Rankings

ECU’s reputation as a top university has shone through in the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings for 2021.

The University was ranked in the top 50 for Gender Equality (24th), Good Health and Wellbeing (24th) and Quality Education (41st).

This is the third year of the THE Impact Rankings, which examine the contributions of universities towards the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. These goals are a call-to-action by all countries to promote prosperity while protecting the planet.

QS World University Rankings Top 150 under 50

ECU has been listed in the QS Top 150 under 50 rankings for 2020.  The rankings cover the world’s 150 leading institutions founded after 1967.

ECU was established in 1991 and appears in the 101-150 category.
