Visual Arts Collection
Through significant purchases and generous gifts the University has works by artists of the stature of Sidney Nolan, Kathleen O'Connor, Howard Taylor, Brett Whitely and Guy Grey-Smith. As a determined collector of West Australian art, the university has a policy to acquire several works by selected local artists to map important developments in their career and arts practice.
Aboriginal Arts Collection
Although small, this collection is broad and includes traditional artefacts of Australian Aboriginal material culture alongside important postwar artworks from Western Arnhemland, Papunya, Balgo Hills, Turkey Creek and various urban centres. To ensure the maintenance and development of this collection, Curatorial Services have formed a very important partnership with Kurongkurl Katijin, School of Indigenous Australian Studies.
Performing Arts Collection
This collection of over 250 contemporary Australian set and costume designs includes works by prominent stage & film designers such as Loudon Sainthill, Kenneth Rowell, Desmond Heeley, Edward Burra and Luciana Arrighi. Many of the pieces from this collection are displayed throughout the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
