Welcome!
Welcome to the CLT Engagement Through Learning and Teaching site. CLT is responsible for building institutional capacity to facilitate the embedding of Engagement across the ECU curriculum. Here you will find information, case studies and useful resources including details of academic development opportunities to assist staff wanting to increase community engagement in their courses. Engagement with a capital “E” on this site refers to Engagement Through Learning and Teaching.
Some words of clarification are needed here. The term engagement is often used to describe “the time, energy and resources students devote to activities designed to enhance learning at university.” (Krause, 2005). However, when we refer to Engagement here, we are referring quite specifically to the interaction between the University and the broader community that is characterised by a two-way flow of benefits.
Edith Cowan University seeks to be known for the productive ways in which it engages with its communities and stakeholders. Engagement is key to all of our activities, characterised by the forming of partnerships with our community.
Across 2009 and into the future, the University will be working to increase the scope and extent of the Engagement in its learning and teaching programs. It is intended to provide updates to this site as further Engagement examples of are undertaken and implemented.
So, who is our community?
Our community includes the businesses, industries, government agencies, non-government organisations, professional bodies, schools, Alumni, Indigenous and ethnic communities and local community groups around our Campuses. However, our communities also exist at state, national and international levels.
