Honorary Doctorates
The Council of Edith Cowan University may award honoris causa any degree of the University to a person who has made a distinguished contribution to some branch of learning or the arts, or who has rendered distinguished service to society or to the University. ECU has conferred this honorary degree in eight areas - Commerce, Law, Letters, Medicine, Music, Philosophy, Teacher Education and Doctor of the University.
Guide to Citation and Usage
Citing the Award
The award may be shown on your business and personal stationery and should cited in the following format:
- Honorary Doctor of Commerce HonDCom ECowan
- Honorary Doctor of Laws HonLLD ECowan
- Honorary Doctor of Letters HonLittD ECowan
- Honorary Doctor of Medicine HonDM ECowan
- Honorary Doctor of Music HonMusD ECowan
- Honorary Doctor of Philosophy HonPhD ECowan
- Honorary Doctor of Teacher Education HonDTeachEd ECowan
- Honorary Doctor of the University HonDUniv ECowan
When using the award it should be shown after any honours, after formal qualifications and prior to any memberships.
For example:
Mr J Smith AO, BBus UNSW , HonDCom ECowan , FCPA AIM
Using the Title
It is customary to use the title "Doctor" only in University circles and for University events.
Honorary Fellowships
There is no honorific or post nominal for an Honorary Fellowship.
