Our Purpose

Providing excellence in support and advice to ensure quality accountable academic governance, within the framework of ECU's ethos of Service, Professionalism and Enterprise.

Roles and Objectives of Academic Governance

  • Ensure Teaching and Learning accountabilities are in place at the organisational level through the development of academic policy initiatives
  • Support quality in Teaching and Learning through ensuring adherence to the devolved course approval process
  • Provide direction and advice in areas of academic governance to ensure quality assurance and continuous improvement
  • Provide effective committee support to Academic Board and its committees to ensure regulatory compliance and efficient committee operations
  • Provide a high level of advice regarding Teaching and Learning objectives and principles to ensure an effective understanding throughout the University and the management of academic course offerings
  • Provide a high level of research ethics advice to University staff/student and external researchers and ensure ECU complies with the appropriate state and federal codes of practice and legislation
  • Provide ongoing monitoring to ensure approved research projects comply with the relevant state and federal codes of practice and legislation
  • Provide effective committee support to the Human and Animal Research Ethics Committees to ensure regulatory compliance and efficient committee operations
  • Provide a strong customer focus to Chancellery and committee members to ensure effective communication between committees and other University networks
