Edith Cowan University, its staff and students are subject to the provisions of the Commonwealth of Australian Copyright Act 1968.

The University's policies and procedures have been established to comply with the requirements of the Copyright Act and other contractual obligations. Staff and students are expected to abide by the policies which are summarised in the following pages.

New Music Licence Agreement

Under the agreement the universities are able to reproduce, communicate and perform an extensive repertoire of musical works that the four music societies (AMCOS, ARIA, APRA and PPCA) are licensed to cover both in Australia and from overseas without having to obtain prior permission of copyright holders. The agreement is for a term of 6 years from 1 January 2005 to 31 December 2010.

Licence covers the following three broad areas:

  • Music on hold;
  • Playing and performing musical works and sound recording; and
  • Reproduction and communication of musical works and sound recordings.
