Ethics Training Workshops - Staff

The Ethics Team can be contacted to arrange training workshops to educate staff members in several facets of ethics.

Training for Research Staff

Although training workshops can be arranged for a small group of first time users of STREAM to learn how to prepare and submit a research ethics application, as well as to become familiar with the ethics review process, there are several resources that can be accessed that may answer your queries, concerns or issues.

Human Research Ethics

Animal Ethics

If, after referring to these resources, you would still like to arrange a training workshop for a small group (i.e. 5 to 10 people) on how to prepare and submit a research ethics application, this can be arranged by contacting the Ethics Team. Please ensure that you advise details such as:

  • when (date and time);
  • where;
  • the number of people you think will attend the workshop; and
  • any concerns or issues you would like covered in the training.

Training for Supervisors

STREAM is designed to allow supervisors to review and edit their students' ethics applications online. This can be done before the application is submitted and when the application has the status of "Returned". Applications will usually have the status of "Returned" if during the review process, the relevant ethics committee (either the Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) or Animal Ethics Committee (AEC)), have advised that amendments need to be made before the application can be approved.

Training workshops on how to review and edit students' ethics applications via STREAM can be arranged for a small group (i.e. 5 to 10 people). If you would like to arrange one of these training workshops, click here and advise the Ethics Team of details such as:

  • when (date and time);
  • where;
  • the number of people you think will attend the workshop; and
  • any concerns or issues you would like covered in the training.

If you are unable to get a small group together to arrange a training workshop, you can contact the Ethics Team on the details listed below and we can work through the key points over the phone or via email.

Training for Research Students

As a supervisor, you might also like to arrange a training workshop for your research students. Typically, a training workshop for research students would be designed to:

  • familiarise students with STREAM;
  • inform students about how to prepare and submit an ethics application via STREAM; and
  • provide information about the review process and what students may be able to expect.

If you would like to arrange a workshop for your research students, click here so that the Ethics Team can arrange one. You will need to provide the following information:

  • when (date and time);
  • where;
  • the number of participants expected to attend the workshop;
  • the qualification the students are studying to achieve (Undergraduate, Honours, Masters by Coursework, Masters by Research, Phd/Doctorate);
  • any concerns or issues you would like covered in the workshop.

Please note that we tend to find that the workshops for students are more effective and interactivity is increased if it is a smaller group (i.e. up to 10 people) and the students are studying to achieve the same qualification.

The Ethics Team are happy to work with you to arrange training sessions or workshops that may cover different or additional material than what is listed on this website. We are also happy to be contacted and asked to attend other workshops or research training days that you may have already arranged to present an ethics module. To discuss these options with the Ethics Team, please send an email to research.ethics@ecu.edu.au or phone 6304 2170 to speak to the Research Ethics Officer.
