G&PS Green Office Initiative

The G&PS Green Office initiative was launched on 29 June 2005, by Riki Stevens - Green Coordinator. Staff in G&PS take an active role in reducing waste and being environmentally aware. The Green Initiative aims to provide techniques for staff to minimise waste, pollution and emissions within their working environment through changing to work practices that are more considerate of the environment.

Throughout this website you will find some simple tips to help reduce the amount of air pollution, water pollution, green house gas emissions, landfill and tree felling that you contributes to our fragile environment. Every small action you take to reduce your negative impact on the enviroment counts so start using some of the more environmentally friendly practices today!

Objectives

To help G&PS Staff think about small contributions they can make to help make their office 'greener', a simple and easy to follow nine point plan has been developed.

The G&PS Green Office...

• Thinks green for paper and other stationary items
• Photocopies and prints double-sided - duplexes!
• Recycles waste paper - put it in your box, not in the bin!
• Does not print unnecessary emails
• Uses remanufactured toner cartridges
• Turns OFF computers and monitors when out of the office for more than one hour
• Has the sleep mode activated on thier computer
• Recycles drink bottles and cans
• Does not throw away plastic crockery or cutlery - wash it and reuse it!

Some other environmentally considerate hints:

• Using remanufactured toner cartridges not only helps the environment, but helps your poor Business Manager too! The cost of remanufactured toner cartridges is significantly smaller than that of thier 'original' counterparts, between fifty to one hundred dollars per cartride on average. You will not be sacrificing quality for cost either as remanufactured toner cartridges purchased through ECU's preferred supplier come with a guarantee!
• Don't throw away old unwanted stationary, share it instead. Something you may not need might be useful to someone else!
