Printing in black and white is much cheaper, more energy
efficient and environmentally friendly than in printing in
colour. Photocopying is much cheaper than printing with a
desktop or network printer. Think about the method you use
to print, and consider the environment!
Reduce the amount of paper, toner and power you use when
you print by following these simple tips...
-
Turn the printer 'OFF' when it is not
in use for longer than one hour.
-
Before you click on the print icon think...'Do
I really need to print this document?'
-
Communicate by e-mail instead of memo.
-
Use the 'print preview' function and
'spell check' before you print your document.
-
Use the 'track changes' function to
edit documents rather than printing it out and hand editing.
-
Widen your margins to fit more content on each page.
-
Decreasing the size of your font will also enable you
to fit more on to each page of your document.
-
Print two pages side-by-side on one
printed page. You can do this by clicking on 'file'
- 'print' - in the box marked 'zoom'
drop down the 'pages per sheet' menu
- select ' 2 pages' - click on
'OK'.
-
Duplex print - this means printing on
both sides of each page and is a very simple tip, but
can also significantly reduce your total paper consumption,
by up to 20%!
To duplex print simply click on 'file'
- 'print' - 'properties'
- on the tab marked 'finishing' in the
'document options' box , check the box
called 'print on both sides'.
-
If you want to be REALLY environmentally aware - print
two pages on one AND duplex!
-
Do not print internal documents in colour! Use grayscale
instead. You can do this by clicking on 'file'
- 'print' - 'properties'
- click on the tab marked 'colour' -
in the box marked 'colour options' check
the box called 'print in grayscale'.
-
Buy remanufactured toner cartridges and recycle them
when they are empty!
- Purchase and use recycled paper.
