The UTEI is the University's Unit and Teaching Evaluation
Instrument (UTEI).
It is a standard three-part survey questionnaire that is
given to students in all units near the end of the semester.
It gives you a chance to comment on your unit's content,
as well as the performance of your lecturer and tutor. In
addition to the usual 'fill in the dot' scales, there is
an opportunity for you to provide more complete written comments
if desired.
Be clear and constructive with all comments that you make. All completed UTEI forms, along with your comments, are returned to your Unit Coordinator.
The ECU
Student Charter states that:
The needs of the students are our highest priority, and
the University will seek continuously to improve the quality
of its courses and services to students.
The ECU Quality
in Teaching and Learning Framework comprises key principles
relating to quality teaching and learning, including:
Principle L2. Participation and Feedback
ECU will provide opportunities for students to participate in the functioning
of the university at various levels and to provide feedback on the teaching
and learning environment.
Principle T1. Teaching Quality
2. University teachers will regularly monitor and evaluate their teaching quality
to continuously improve upon their performance. This involves
- collecting and interpreting relevant data from a variety of sources; and
- reflecting critically on this information to identify strengths and weaknesses.
Thus the UTEI is a crucial part of the University's quality
assurance processes. University teaching staff use the UTEI
data to review all units and the teaching, identify strengths
and weaknesses and make necessary improvements.
The feedback that you provide via the UTEI does matter.
Teaching staff regard the UTEI information seriously
and use it to make improvements to the unit and their teaching. Should
you, in the first lecture in a unit, not hear how the results
of previous unit evaluations have been used to improve the
unit, ask the Unit Coordinator.
All University UTEI unit, lecturer and tutor reports from 2002 semester two to date, are publicly available.
