University SmartCard Picture

Commencing in January 2007, ECU will be introducing a new digital SmartCard that will include:

  • An ECU photo ID card
  • Library borrowing card
  • Photocopying / printing card
  • And, if you choose, you can use the card as a Transperth SmartRider card

Q: How do I get one?
A: Currently enrolled students and staff can obtain the new card at Multimedia Resources which is located adjacent to the Loans/Enquiries counter at each campus library.
However, if you wish to use the card for Transperth travel you need to first authorise your details at:
University ID Card: Transperth Consent Declaration Webpage

Part-time Students who have other eligible concessions, such as Health Care cards, will need to take original documentation confirming their concession entitlements to a Transperth Information Centre in Perth and the concession will be linked to their University SmartCard.

Q: I'm an External student. Can I get an SmartCard?
A: Yes. If you live near an ECU campus we encourage you to come in for an ID during Library opening hours.
However, if that is not posssible click here http://www.ecu.edu.au/KITSC/MMR/info/students.html#external_students
for instructions on how you can request a card using email or post.

Q: When can I obtain a card?
A: Cards can be obtained any time during library opening hours.
See http://www.ecu.edu.au/library/services/hours.html for details.
However, if possible, it is best if you come in during normal working hours when more staff are on duty.

Q: Can I use the new card as an access card?
A: No, you will still need a separate card to access rooms and buildings.  We hope to incorporate access into the SmartCard in the future.

Q: Is there a charge for the card?
A: The first card is free, however replacement cards cost $10 unless:
  • the card has been stolen and you can provide a police report number
  • you’ve changed your name
  • you’ve changed to a new course that requires a different format of card
  • you've completed a degree and are commencing a new degree

Q: What do I do with value on my old CopyPlus card?
A: We suggest that you simply use up the value on your old card.

Q: Can I get a refund for my CopyPlus card?
A: No.  We will be providing your new SmartCard for free, plus if you use it for travel you will be saving the cost of a Transperth SmartRider card, which is currently $5.  So overall you’re coming out in front!

Q: Can I continue using my old ID card?
A: You can continue using the old card for library borrowing until you get a new card.  Once you get a new card the old card becomes invalid.
If you want to get travel concessions you will have to use the new card.
Transperth will no longer be issuing stickers for student concession travel.

Q: What do I do if I lose my card?

A: Report it as lost to Transperth so your remaining balance is kept safe.
Once reported to Transperth as lost, it is hotlisted and it cannot be re-enabled.
A new card needs to be issued AND Transperth contacted to transfer the balance to the new card.

Q: Where can I get more information on Transperth’s SmartRider system?

Q. Do I need a sticker on my SmartCard to get Transperth concessions?

A. Perth students don't need a sticker. The concession is worked out automatically.

South West (Bunbury) students DO need a sticker. Please check with ECU Southwest Student Central.

Public Transportation Discount Information for Regional Students
Although all students can obtain the SmartRider on the back of their student ID card for Transperth, this is not relevant to the public transport outside of Perth. Full-time students need to obtain a 'T' sticker from Student Central at ECU South West which will entitle you to a discount on the Southwest Coachlines and Bunbury City Transit buses.
