Environment

At ECU, we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint and encourage the achievement of a sustainable community and learning environment.

We acknowledge that as a large organisation we are a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Because of this, we strive to reduce or offset our total emissions and support staff, students and the broader community to do likewise.

Our goal is to minimise the waste of resources, prevent pollution and demonstrate environmentally sensitive development, innovation and continuous improvement.

We’re serious about our targets and our Sustainable Communities Action Plan supports us to:

  • develop a heightened awareness and practice of social and environmental sustainability amongst our staff, students and communities;
  • embed the principles of social and environmental sustainability as knowledge and skills into the curriculum and research programs; and
  • continue improvement in reducing the university’s environmental footprint in areas of learning and teaching, research, energy, water, materials, waste, biodiversity and transport.

More information on our environmentally friendly initiatives can be found on the Environmental management webpage.
