Professor John Finlay-Jones

BScHons, PhD WAust, FAIBiol, FASM

Professor John Finlay-Jones has been appointed the role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President with the responsibility for leading research at Edith Cowan University (ECU).

Professor John Finlay-Jones brings to ECU a deep understanding of the Higher Education System in Australia. He has an extensive track record over three decades of personal excellence in teaching, research and community engagement, and enjoys an enviable reputation for leadership and facilitating personal excellence in others.

Prior to his appointment as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Advancement) and Vice-President, Professor Finlay-Jones was Assistant Director at the Telethon Institute of Child Health (2003-2008), and Professor of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and Head of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Flinders University (1998-2003).

Professor Finlay-Jones holds the degrees of Bachelor of Science with Honours and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Western Australia.

He has an excellent track record in research with over 120 publications in the international literature and continuous financial support, as Chief Investigator or Co-Chief Investigator, through grants funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia.
