Congratulations to Professor Ralph Martins, WA Australian of the Year 2010

Friday, 27 November 2009

It is a great honour to be identified as WA Australian of the Year and it is my pleasure on behalf of the entire ECU community to congratulate Professor Martins on this fantastic achievement.

I am sure that Professor Martins will have all of our support as he goes onto represent WA in the national awards, with the winner to be announced on 25 January 2010.

ECU’s Foundation Chair of Ageing and Alzheimer’s, and Head of the Centre of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease Research and Care, Professor Martins is one of the world’s leading researchers into Alzheimer’s disease. He and his team and collaborators were the first to discover that chemical changes in the nervous system (deposits of beta amyloid) lead to Alzheimer’s disease. They are now advanced in developing a test that will help with the much earlier diagnosis of Alzheimer’s which should lead to more effective interventions.

Ralph, ECU is proud of you.
