Lynne Cohen and Pierre Horwitz appointed as Professors

Friday, 22 July 2011

It is my pleasure to announce Professor Lynne Cohen and Professor Pierre Horwitz as successful applicants this year for promotion to the position of Professor (Level E). I congratulate them on their success and I thank them for their sustained contributions to ECU in a variety of scholarly ways at a very high level.

Many of you will be aware of the rigorous evaluation academic staff face when they apply for promotion to Professor (Level E). Recently, the Professoriate Appointment Committee met to assess applications for promotion to the professoriate in 2011.

Here, I acknowledge that whilst it is easy to celebrate success in being promoted, it is also the case that high performing staff who for one or more reasons do not succeed with their application are likely to feel immense disappointment. ECU always strives to give helpful feedback to unsuccessful candidates to help them adjust and reprioritise their professional activities, within the framework of their existing job, so that they may be successful next time.
