Professor Tony Watson to retire from ECU

Friday, 17 February 2012

Dear Colleagues

ECU’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) and Executive Dean Faculty of Computing, Health and Science, Professor Tony Watson, will step down from his leadership positions with the University in spring of 2012.

Having been with ECU for many years in various academic roles, Tony became Executive Dean of our largest Faculty and Pro-Vice-Chancellor in 2003. In 2009 he was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for International, and Vice-President, in addition to maintaining his position as Executive Dean. Tony understood well the best future for ECU and has been a strategic, tireless, outcome-focussed leader of the Faculty of Computing, Health and Science, in addition to his thoughtful contributions more generally as a member of the VCPMG.

We (Tony too) still have much work to do before Tony's departure. Therefore, closer to that time we will sing Tony's praises more fulsomely and celebrate his stellar contributions to ECU over an extended period.

In the meantime, we will commence recruitment for a successor within the next few weeks.
