I am delighted, in partnership with Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Advancement) Professor John Finlay-Jones, to announce the appointment of Dr Margaret Jones to the position of Director of the Office of Research and Innovation, commencing on the 14 May.

Dr Jones will bring considerable experience to the position, with an honours degree from the University of Western Australia, and a PhD at the University of Massachusetts (Amherst) in molecular biology.

Her professional experience includes a postdoctoral position at Monash University, where she worked with Professor Alan Trounson and Senior Research Fellow (including a prestigious NHMRC RD Wright Fellowship) at Prince Henry's Institute of Medical Research (PHIMR), working with Professor Evan Simpson.

Dr Jones CV includes 65 journal publications and invitations to present at both national and international conferences. She has made significant contributions to research management at PHIMR with several years also spent at the University of WA fostering Research Development.

Since 2010 Dr Jones worked in Abu Dhabi as an Independent International Research Specialist working with a range of clients including the National Research Foundation and the WA Trade Office.

I am confident that Dr Jones will bring vast array of experience to ECU’s research portfolio and I look forward to welcoming her to the ECU team.
