We regret to inform you that we are no longer able to offer an ECU email address for life following graduation. Your ECU email address will now be archived 12 months after your graduation. If you have graduated more than 12 months ago you will no longer be able to access your ECU email address after 1 September 2016 (unless you are also a currently enrolled student). If this is the only email address we hold for you, we would strongly encourage you to update your contact details with us with an alternative email address. Update your email address by 1 August to be entered into a prize draw to win a $100 Myer voucher!
Why
update your details?
Recent
changes in legislation regarding data retention has had significant impact on
the maintenance of the hundreds of thousands of existing ECU email addresses,
including those of Alumni. As a result, ECU is unfortunately no longer able to
offer an ECU email address for life and has been forced to archive all former
student email accounts. Archiving will take place on 1 September 2016, meaning
that you will not be able to access your ECU email address including any
historical emails stored in this email account from this date.
You will however still be able to access ECU services such as SIMO and
CareerHub as well as the library and Proquest databases, all you need to do is
change any logins or accounts with your new email address.
The Legislative changes to the Telecommunications Amendment Act 2015 requires
new reporting on email activity and unfortunately with an alumni community of
over 150,000 that grows every year we do not have the capacity to be able to
comply with reporting requirements for alumni as well as current staff and
students. For more information on the recent changes to the Telecommunications
(Interception and Access) Amendment (Data Retention) Act 2015.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and hope we have given you enough
time to update your details and retrieve any important information from your
ECU email account. If you need assistance retrieving any of your
information please contact the IT Help Desk on 08 6304 6000.
As a valued member of the alumni community, we look forward to being able to
stay in touch with you.
