We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint and encourage the achievement of a sustainable community and learning environment. We acknowledge that as a large organisation we are a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Because of this, we strive to reduce or offset our total emissions and support staff, students and the broader community to do likewise.
Our Carbon footprint
ECU aims to continue reducing its carbon footprint, primarily through the accredited Environmental Management System (EMS), which details our environment policy and identifies risks, legal responsibilities and key environmental programs for energy, water, waste, and transport.
What we are doing
We have developed an Environmental Management System (EMS) to manage the environmental impacts of our business on the environment. The EMS is in accordance with international standards under ISO/ASNZ 14001. We have developed environmental programs which help us achieve the targets set for our carbon footprint.
We are focusing our efforts in the following areas to help us reduce our overall impacts and to make us a more sustainable organisation.
- Energy
- Water
- Waste recycling
- Transport
- South West campus bushland
- Green Office program
