ECU Council now has an Aboriginal student representative

ECU Aboriginal student Azlan Martin has recently been appointed to the University Council as one of two enrolled student representatives elected by the enrolled students of the University.

The University Council is the governing body which controls and manages the operation, affairs, concerns and property of the University, in accordance with the Corporate Governance Statement. Together with ECU’s senior management team, the Council ensure that the University achieves its goals.

Azlan is a Nunga woman from South Australia and is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) which she hopes to complete in 2016.

Azlan’s skills, experience and passion for student advocacy is highly regarded and have been actively demonstrated through activities such as:

  • her previous role as ECU Student Guild President;
  • assisting in the development of ECU’s Reconciliation Action Plans;
  • membership on the Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group;
  • volunteering with the Aboriginal Student Union; and
  • represented students on a national level through Blacademy.

The term as student representative on Council runs from the 11 October 2015 until 10 October 2016.

We wish Azlan all the best in her new role and know that she will make a valuable contribution to Council. Congratulations Azlan.
