Changes to library services

ECU Library has introduced a new library system so the look of the catalogue and search techniques have changed. In some instances, Library loan rules and policies have also changed. If you require assistance using your library, or need clarification on any of the below points, please contact us.

ECU Worldsearch

This is your new world wide catalogue. ECU staff and students can use ECU Worldsearch to find electronic, digital and physical materials and where they are available. It even helps you with your EndNote citations.

Go to Advanced Search and enter your title or search a subject. Under ‘Location’ you can limit your search to Edith Cowan University.


The maximum number of items you can borrow has increased for most patrons to 100 and we have also introduced 5 automatic renewals.  No more forgetting to renew, the system does it for you as long as no one else has placed a Hold on your item. We do ask you to regularly check My Library Account so you know when your item is to be returned.

7 day loans have gone and most items can now be borrowed for a minimum of 4 weeks.

You can place a ‘Hold’ on an item which another patron has on loan.  This prevents the automatic renewal for that borrower and you will be notified via your ECU email once it’s returned and ready to pick up.

Finding your unit reading list

Core/required readings for your unit are now located on your unit Blackboard site. Both the physical items (held in the High Use Collection) and online resources should be listed in your unit Blackboard site under the ‘Reading List’ menu option. Not there? Please see your lecturer.

High Use Collection

The penalty for non-return of High Use Collection (HUC) items has increased and this penalty commences even if you are one minute late. Set the timer on your phone or your could be out of pocket! The new penalty is $10 per hour, capped at $100. Unfortunately too many of our HUC books disappeared and this disadvantaged the majority of our borrowers; particularly over exam periods.

Replacement costs

In line with most WA universities, we have introduced a standard replacement cost for items that are lost or damaged.  The replacement cost for most items will now be $110 with a $10 processing charge. Higher charges may be imposed if the item is of high value.

Document delivery users

The form on the VDX document delivery system does not currently populate with the book/article data from the ‘Request through Interlibrary Loan’ button. Until we have a solution for you, the information will need to be added manually. Sorry!
