The ECU Library Services Centre have made available the new APA Style Central database which provides a 24/7 online learning environment for students and staff to learn APA 6th Edition Style referencing and is the authoritative source for this referencing style.
Over the past six months, the ECU Library Services Centre has updated and expanded the available APA 6th Edition Style referencing material, in line with new resources and learning technologies available in this area. These updates have been made with the goal of improving student learning and experience in regards to referencing.
The new APA Style Central database provides a 24/7 online learning environment for students and staff to learn APA 6th Edition Style referencing and is the authoritative source for this referencing style. APA Style Central includes a searchable bank of sample references, a variety of video tutorials and interactive quizzes, as well as information on research and publishing. Also included is electronic access to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th Ed, 2010) and the APA Style Guide to Electronic References (2012).
To take full advantage of the learning resources provided by APA Style Central, the Referencing Library Guide has been redesigned to showcase relevant materials. As APA Style Central is the authoritative resource for APA 6th Edition Style referencing, a new printable 'Quick' APA Referencing Guide has been developed for students and has been trialled successfully since January 2017.
Following the successful trial fo the new printable 'Quick' APA Referencing Guide, and in acknowledging that the APA Style Central Database in conjunction with the Referencing Library Guide provides a complete and authoritative coverage of APA 6th Edition Style, the former ECU Referencing Guide will be archived.
It is recommended that from the beginning of Semester 2, 2017, students be directed to the Referencing Library Guide <http://ecu.au.libguides.com/referencing>, which provides detailed examples as well as access to the new 'Quick' APA Referencing Guide and the APA Style Central database. Please update Blackboard sites and other Unit Materials accordingly.
We are aware that a number of units use this ECU Referencing Guide as part of their teaching as assessment materials. In light of this, and to allow plenty of time to redevelop teaching materials, the ECU Referencing Guide will be archived on 18 December 2017. If you do intend to continue using this document in your units for Semester 2, please be aware that its URL has changed but can still be accessed from the Referencing Library Guide.
