Session content

Session 1 focuses on what drives an entrepreneur to take an idea and/or technology and turn it into a growth business. It will feature two speakers; one from ECU’s Strategic Business Development office, and another from industry, who will present and examine a case of an entrepreneurial company that has successfully transformed from an early stage idea to a real venture.

The Session will cover the entrepreneurial process and specifically examine the mindset and motivation required to drive the intent of the entrepreneur from both an academic and practical viewpoint.

Whatever your stage of the entrepreneurial journey or background, if you are interested in entrepreneurship and in commercialising a new technology or idea, this Session will prove invaluable.

Speaker informationDr Nathalie Collins:

Dr Nathalie Collins is the Manager of Strategic Business Development at ECU. She has been a marketing professional in Western Australia for almost 20 years; working with various industry sectors including: non-profit, government, retail, hospitality, mining and energy and Aboriginal cultural organisations.

Nathalie holds qualification in marketing and e-marketing, communications, information management, philosophy, graphic design and religious studies. Her primary areas of research are consumer behaviour, authenticity and the extreme behaviour of particularly dedicated customers (customer evangelists). Her latest research is being published in June by the Review of Marketing Research, and focuses on how companies can identify their most fervent customers in order to leverage those customers for greater Customer Lifetime Value. Nathalie has a blog and a Twitter feed dedicated to her work in authenticity ( and @3sixtyda).

Nathalie is passionate about entrepreneurship and will provide some teachings and insight into the evening’s topic of ‘Mindsets and Motivations’.Mr Steve van Blommestein:

Steve is the Managing Director of Netlink Group, which he founded in 1994, the CEO of Cirralto, and a director of STUMPjUMP Ventures.

Steve has extensive experience in business management and development for the commercialisation of innovative IT solutions. Netlink Group is one of the most highly specialised and accredited IT companies in WA specialising in providing complete ITC managed services to the SME sector.

In his time at Netlink Group he has successfully co-founded and exited wo global web businesses, WebSpy™ and Inspection Manager™.

Currently he is looking to raise capital for Cirralto to build a national business for companies wanting to completely outsource their ITC requirements to the Cloud.

STUMPjUMP Ventures is an early stage business incubator that helps startups raise capital and commercialise their products. In addition to STUMPjUMP, Steve is working closely with a colleague to raise capital for a Technology Fund to be based in Perth WA.

Steve is an angel investor in a number of early stage start-ups in a mixture of clean tech, renewable energy, organic health products and a number of online global sales projects.
