Our services

The Office of Research and Innovation supports ECU’s research program through a comprehensive range of services.

Researcher development

Our Research Development Advisers provide a range of professional development activities for staff.

External research funding

The Office provides assistance in developing research ideas and supports researchers in their funding application preparation at all stages, including checking project budgets in conjunction with School Finance teams.

Post-award assistance

Research grants agreements and research contracts are negotiated by ORI, who also provide advice on contractual matters and reporting requirements, and manage drafting of contract variations if required.

Research data collection and management

The Office is responsible for the annual collection of research performance data for the Federal Government’s Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC) and the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative.

Research community communications

We provide regular online communications across the ECU research community to ensure researchers are continually aware of funding opportunities, conferences, seminars and other issues.

Research ethics

We provide advice and support to staff and students in relation to the ethical conduct of research at ECU, including administrative support for the Animal Ethics and Human Research Ethics Committees and reporting to the University and national research bodies.

Industry liaison and promotion

The Office actively promotes and markets ECU’s research capability through the management of publications and events, and by strengthening existing links and developing new ones with research partners and sponsors.

Administration of ECU funding schemes

  • the ECU Industry Collaboration Scheme provides funding towards research collaborations with external organisations;
  • the Early Career Researcher Grant Scheme provides an opportunity for new researchers to gain experience in grant application, research methodology, project implementation and reporting; and
  • the Capability Enhancement Scheme provides funding to support collaborations that will lead to increased cross-institutional connections.
