Student participation on Council and Boards

Opportunities for student participation on Council or Boards arise through membership of:

Council

Section 9 (1)(e) of the Edith Cowan University Act (1984) provides for 2 enrolled students of the University to be elected to Council. As the governing body of the University, membership provides an opportunity for students to have an input into strategic decisions affecting the University.

Elections for the student members of Council are held in September/October each year, with the elected member serving a one-year term. A student member of Council may stand for election to serve one further term.

The Advisory Board of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts

University Statute No 15 provides for one enrolled student of the Academy to be appointed by Council through an Expression of Interest process annually.

ECU South West Campus (Bunbury) Advisory Board

University Statute No 20 provides for one enrolled student of ECU South West (Bunbury Campus) to be appointed by Council through an Expression of Interest process annually.

Vice-Chancellor's Student Advisory Forum

The Vice-Chancellor's Student Advisory Forum provides students the opportunity to discuss issues directly with the Vice-Chancellor and senior leadership team. The terms of reference for the Forum are to raise issues and provide advice to the Vice-Chancellor on any matters that would lead to improving access to programs for motivated and capable students, and improving the experiences and outcomes of students.

Academic Board, Education Committee and Research and Higher Degrees Committee

The Academic Board Rules provides for student representation on the Academic Board consisting of the President of the Student Guild or nominee, and up to three co-opted students nominated by student associations accepted by the Academic Board as appropriate to make such nominations, at least one being a postgraduate student.  Information about Academic Board can be found on the Academic Board SharePoint page.

The membership composition of the Education Committee includes the President of the Student Guild or nominee, and a postgraduate student representative nominated by the Student Guild.  Information about Education Committee can be found on the Education Committee Sharepoint page.

The Research and Higher Degrees Committee's membership composition includes the President of the Student Guild or nominee, and a postgraduate student nominated by the Student Guild.  Information about the Research and Higher Degrees Committee can be found on the Research and Higher Degrees Committee Sharepoint page.

Student Services and Amenities Fee Advisory Forum

The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) Advisory Forum provides advice to the Vice-Chancellor on the services and amenities to be offered to ECU students and the best methods in providing these, consistent with the matters included in the Student Services, Amenities, Representation and Advocacy Guidelines and the Student Services and Amenities Fee Guidelines.  The membership composition of the SSAF Advisory Forum includes the President of the Student Guild, one student member of Council, and two enrolled students (one undergraduate student member and one postgraduate student member) nominated by the Student Guild.
