This course aims to provide skills in Crisis Resource Management which are applicable to all emergency and potential emergency situations that may arise in anaesthetic practice.
Patient safety and quality are at the heart of what we do. Studies have shown that a high proportion of adverse incidents in health care are the result of breakdowns in communication or poor teamwork.
Crisis Resource Management (CRM) is: “a management system which makes optimum use of all available resources – people, procedures, equipment – to promote safety and enhance efficiency during a crisis situation.”
The ECU Health Simulation Centre specialises in training in CRM – training in a safe yet realistic environment, using immersive simulation scenarios and debriefing sessions.
This one-day course has been developed for anaesthetists (specialist and non-specialist), senior anaesthetic registrars, junior anaesthetists, GP anaesthetists, operating theatre nurses and technicians.
You’ll need two years’ experience in anaesthesia.
Educational sessions and practical ‘hands-on’ skills stations complement the realistic critical event scenarios in our fully-equipped operating theatre. Scenarios are followed by debriefing sessions, conducted by trained Crisis Resource Management instructors.
“Debriefing sessions were so worthwhile.”
“My non-technical skills have improved as a result of this course.”
“Excellent course, great staff; enhanced knowledge and I feel more confident in my role.”
