Ashdale Secondary College partnership
Ashdale Secondary College is a new independent government school linked closely with its three feeder primary schools to form a school cluster that has developed a strong partnership with ECU based on shared interests relating to teacher professional learning, supporting student teachers on teaching practice and education research.
The partnership represents engagement at a number of levels. ECU teacher education students in the residency program of the Diploma of Education spend up to three days each week at the College ensuring their training is grounded in the school context. A number of ECU-led research projects are being conducted in the schools across the cluster focusing on research-informed professional learning of school staff. The centrepiece of the partnership is the development of a co-funded professional learning centre at the College, comprising two observation classrooms with in-built video cameras to record lessons for research and professional learning focused on improving teachers’ practice.
