Gnangara Mound sustainability project
The Gnangara Mound project represents a long-term commitment between ECU scientists and the Water Corporation to undertake research on sustainable water resource development and management.
The project uses vegetation groundwater requirements and adaptability to formulate sustainable bore field operations and represents a significant contribution to Australian and international research on ecosystem dependency on groundwater.
Bore field operation strategies such as pumping during periods of lower environmental demand have already been implemented by the Water Corporation as a result of this project.
Water Corporation, Department of Water and University of Western Australia researchers work directly with ECU on the development of ecosystem response simulation models and modifications to management guidelines and operational work plans.
