Social Programme
HERDSA Fringe and Social Program discussion board
An innovative and creative social programme will complement the conference. Your Conference Registration includes both the Welcome Reception and The Conference Dinner. Make the most of networking opportunities and be sure to be there!
We are now working on the final details of the social program. This year is the 30th Anniversary of HERDSA, and we want to make the event a really special and memorable occasion. We have organised a series of social events, designed to ensure everyone has fun and shares Quality Conversations with others.
Some of the activities require you to undertake a small amount of preparation, particularly for the Welcome Reception (make the effort to come, the Aquarium is brilliant) and the Conference Dinner.
Sunday 7th July 2002: Welcome Reception
6.00pm - 8.00pm
AQWA (The Aquarium of Western Australia)
All delegates need to wear or carry a conversation piece. This can be any item that represents a story about yourself. During the reception, the conversation pieces will be used to introduce people to each other, and to begin the sharing of personal and professional stories, which we hope will continue throughout the conference.
Monday 8th July: Conference Dinner - All that Glitters is not Gold
7.00pm - 11.00pm
Rendezvous Observation City Hotel
Delegates are invited to:
- Dress to reflect the title BUT clothes/jewels etc should be purchased from a charity shop. This way you can dress up cheaply for fun, and contribute to a charity of your choice
- Bring a table decoration to reflect the title (and something of your own background), or a candle (or two) to light through dinner
- Bring/wear your conversation piece to ensure you share stories with some more people
- Bring a tape or CD to play and practice up a favourite dance to teach others (we'd like all countries, styles and decades represented). Prizes for effort and inventiveness will be awarded on the night
Tuesday 9th July: Wine and Cheese, and Special Interest Group dinners.
4.00pm - 6.00pm
ECU Joondalup
Wine, cheese and nibbles will be served during the poster event. Delegate groups are encouraged to share an evening meal afterwards in the nearby Joondalup City Precinct. Begin to plan a group you would like to join.
Wednesday 10th July: Conference Wine Tour
2.00pm - 6.00pm
Depart ECU Joondalup
There's nothing to prepare for this event just sign up through Debretts if you would like to come. Be quick, places are filling fast.
Conference Fringe We are also introducing a new HERDSA concept: The Conference Fringe. The fringe is a series of events and experiences (sports, music, arts and leisure as well as impromptu professional activities) running through the conference period, organised by delegates, for delegates. We are inviting anyone with gifts, talents and interests to find other people of like minds, and share an activity you will enjoy (the conference team will help by providing communication, information and resources to support activities).
All conference delegates are also invited to bring a favourite joke, quote or cartoon (relevant to the conference) for the Conference Graffiti Wall, And bring photos, mementoes and memoires (in writing or for performance) for the History of HERDSA display (30 yrs of HERDSA).
Please see the social program Discussion Board on the conference website, and take the initiative to get something going. Or email me with your ideas.
We look forward to seeing you all at the conference, Be prepared to enjoy a really special event Heather Sparrow Social Program Coordinator (08) 94005269.
