Occupational Safety and Health Major


Provides students with an introduction to this profession and equips them with the knowledge and skills to function effectively in the health and safety industry.

Students undertaking this major as part of the Bachelor of Health Science should select a second major in Environmental Management, Health Promotion, Addiction Studies or Nutrition.

Professional recognition

Institution of Occupational Safety and Health have Accredited this Major.

This major is only accredited when taken in conjunction with the Bachelor of Health Science (K97) program.

Australian OHS Education Accreditation Board (AOHSEAB) have Accredited this Major.

Accreditation has been approved only for students completing this major in conjunction with the Bachelor of Health Science (K97) program.


Students can apply for membership with Institution of Occupational Safety and Health. Graduates are eligible for membership with Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.

Graduates of K97 will be eligible to apply for our graduate level of membership Grad IOSH. They will then be required to undertake a period of Initial Professional Development which will require students to provide evidence of their practice skills in a skills development portfolio (IPD), at the end of this period there will be a professional review interview. After successful completion of this IPD process students will then be eligible for the chartered membership of IOSH (CMIOSH).

Students can apply for membership with Safety Institute of Australia (SIA).

Students can apply for membership with Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH).

Students can either join as a Student member or an Associate Member.
