The lecturers at ECU are lifelong professionals who have extensive experience in the subjects they are teaching

During my study I've found that the lecturers at ECU are lifelong professionals who have extensive experience in the subjects they are teaching, rather than just an academic background. This makes the lectures very interesting, as we get to learn about real world issues and solutions. There are many opportunities for developing important contacts within the industry. Representing the university at two major industry conferences allowed me to develop critical networks in Federal and State law enforcement, and private industry.

I worked with the WA police to create software that will have real community benefits

I was really impressed with the number of computing labs and the 24/7 accessibility at ECU. I didn't expect to be able to work for real clients during my time at uni, so was surprised when I was given the opportunity to develop software for the WA Police Air Wing.

We developed a mobile phone app that could assist police in search and rescue missions. We were able to work with them on the design and then able to test the app in the field using the Police helicopter. The experience and recognition has been invaluable.

I wanted to do something more meaningful

Although I loved my previous career, I wanted to do something more meaningful. I felt I could really make a difference through midwifery, working in a stable industry. The pastoral care from ECU staff has been outstanding. I've been supported not just as a student, but as a holistic person with challenges outside of my studies.
