ECU’s South West Campus celebrated this year’s “Wear it Purple” event in the student common room Friday, 25 September 2017. Interestingly the theme for this year is “Celebrate”, which highlighted those in the rainbow community who provide happiness, demonstrate diversity, help bring together the community, work to raise awareness and ensure there are good times for the rainbow community.
The campus’ Sport and Recreation department once again joined with the Student Guild to transform the student common room into a party like atmosphere of celebration that attracted about 120 participants. A free DIY photo booth was set up and many took the opportunity to don some purple for a few happy snaps. There was a “Yes” vote comment wall that allowed people to have their say on the upcoming postal vote. A very popular attraction was the table of freebies and material that included things from ECU, Headspace and the LGBT community.
The only thing that proved more popular than the afore mentioned attractions was the table of food that included, Purple and Rainbow frosted cupcakes, purple & pink lollies and drinks, hot food platters, vegetarian sandwiches, variety of dips, plenty of fresh produce and more sweet things than a diet allows.
Many thanks to all who attended with special recognition to Jessica (Student Guild), David Rhodes, Kerry Morrison (Uni-Choice) and Headspace for their contributions.
