“Working at a University, there is always something going on"

After finishing high school I worked a number of different jobs, including FIFO up north, bar work, and also traveled through Europe.  When I came back I was ready to settle down and do further studies so I enrolled at TAFE and completed a Cert IV and Diploma in Marketing. In early 2017 I was presented with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year Award for the North Metro TAFE, an achievement I am really proud of! I was also a semi-finalist for the WA Training Awards 2017. Having finished TAFE studies, I used credits from my Diploma and enrolled in a Bachelor of Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations at ECU, I am completing this while undertaking a cadetship at ECU.

My cadetship has given me the opportunity to work in different areas of the university, such as Engagement, Human Resources and Marketing, which I really enjoy. I have been able to gain a better understanding of how ECU works through my experiences with different parts of ECU, and by being involved with events that ECU run. While trying to work, and study, my managers have been very understanding of my study requirements, and offered me the flexibility I need to complete my studies, which is appreciated. There are a number of people who I can talk to if I need support, and I sit down with them regularly to talk through any issues I might have. Having this support has been a huge help for my journey so far.
