Competition prizes

The prizes are awarded annually. A panel of SCRAM sub-committee members and adjudicators on Grand Final night select the winners for the relevant categories. The prizes are awarded at an end of year gala event, the annual Grand Final, where SCRAM participants, schools, members of the mediation and legal profession and general public are welcome to attend.

Winner Sponsored by LEADR, Association of Dispute Resolvers

To be eligible to compete in the grand final the School must be one of the top two highest scoring schools after Round 4. This prize is awarded to the overall winner of the SCRAM competition at the Grand Final.

Prizes include:

  • A place in the LEADR training program for a teacher or parent to attend from the school;
  • Commemorative Plaque;
  • Individual Certificates: team members, coach and teacher; and
  • Training DVD.

Runner Up Sponsored by IAMA

To be eligible to compete in the grand final the School has to be one of the top two highest scoring schools after Round 4. This prize is awarded to the School that finishes runner up in the SCRAM grand final.

Prizes include:

  • A place in the IAMA training program for a teacher or parent to attend from the school;
  • Commemorative Plaque;
  • Individual Certificates team members, coach and teacher;
  • Training DVD; and
  • IAMA certificate of excellence.

Committment Award, Sponsored by Centrecare

Awarded to a SCRAM team in recognition of dedication and commitment of schools in mediation teaching and the SCRAM competition.

Criteria:

All Schools participating in the competition will be considered by the Selection Panel * on the following criteria:

  1. The number of students according to the adjudication sheets.
  2. Number of students participating in the coaching sessions.
  3. The number of years the school has participated in SCRAM.
  4. How the school has promoted SCRAM in their school and community.
  5. The success of the learning journey according to the adjudication scores.
  6. How the school has developed their behaviour management and discipline policy to incorporate mediation to resolve disputes and conflict.

Prizes include:

  • Centrecare will donate a mediation book to the school;
  • Commemorative plaque;
  • Certificates; and
  • Training video.

Encouragement Award Sponsored by Relationships Australia

This Award is to encourage a school that the SCRAM Selection Panel recognizes to have overcome significant obstacles to remain in the competition, such as:

  • Rural School;
  • Representative participation of minority group.

Other criteria may include:

  • Number of students participating in the coaching sessions;
  • The number of years the school has participated in SCRAM;
  • How the school has promoted SCRAM in their school and community; and
  • The success of the learning journey according to the adjudication scores.

Prizes include:

  • Relationships Australia will donate a mediation book to the school;
  • Commemorative Plaque;
  • Certificates;
  • Training Video;
  • Mediation book.
Note: those prizes that consist of a place in a Professional Development Training Course (valued at up to $3,000) must be redeemed within 12 months of winning the prize. In the event that the school cannot arrange for a staff or parent to attend the complimentary mediation training course, it is the responsibility of the school to liaise directly with the sponsor to negotiate an alternative lower valued prize (such as a book, in-school PD session or P & C conflict resolution presentation).
