The recent PGSB Team Building Day, held at Point Walter Recreation Camp on Friday 25 February, proved to be a fun and memorable start to the semester for new Postgraduate students in the Faculty of Business and Law.
The bi-annual orientation event is a way for new students to meet each other and have fun together, whilst learning important teamwork skills that will assist them in their studies.
February’s event offered students the opportunity to participate in a range of outdoor activities. Twenty new students were in attendance, including students who were also new to Australia.
Instructors from the WA Department of Sport and Recreation guided the students through a range of challenging activities, from canoeing and raft building to abseiling, high ropes and the ‘leap of faith’. This activity required a little more courage than others, as students were asked to climb a very high pole, and then leap to a trapeze swing a few metres away.
MBA Director, Associate Professor Gary Chittick, organised the day for students, believing it to be an important event for newcomers.
“It is a great opportunity for students to get to know each other, engage in team activities in the beautiful surrounds of the Swan River, and form supportive networks that will see them through their university days and beyond,” he said.
Associate Professor Chittick also noted that the success of the day was due to the enthusiasm of both staff and students involved, who all helped to make the event an unforgettable start to the semester at PGSB.
