Marcela Aguirre with Faculty of Business and Law Executive Dean Professor Atique Islam
Postgraduate Marketing student Marcela Aguirre gave a stirring speech for the recent Faculty of Business and Law graduation ceremony, held on 25 September at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre.
In her speech she discussed the challenges of being a working postgraduate student and the international career that has unfolded as a result of broadening her knowledge base with a postgraduate marketing degree. She shared with her fellow graduating students three pieces of wisdom for their own success and happiness.
She stressed the importance of making a degree work for yourself. She compared qualifications to keys, saying that they would open doors, but only if graduates were prepared to put in hard work too.
She also highlighted that finding your passion in life took time. She offered comforting words for those who thought they might not have found it yet, saying that sometimes we need to take different paths to find our way.
Lastly she acknowledged the 150th anniversary of the University’s namesake, Edith Cowan, and encouraged her sister graduates to follow in Edith’s footsteps. She urged them to be more assertive, to be women who care for each other, and to make Edith Cowan proud.
