The Faculty of Business and Law held its inaugural careers workshop for first year students on Wednesday, 24 October.

The workshop, Linked In and Looking Good – Networking and presentation skills to get that job, informed students about practical strategies to make professional contacts, get to know the industry where they plan to work and promote themselves in the competitive marketplace for jobs.

Presenters at the workshop included ECU Careers Services staff member, Kirsty Anderson, FBL Work Integrated Learning Coordinator Dr Megan Le Clus, Bruno Santarelli from the Centre for Learning and Development, as well as students Hugo de Vos and Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) president Dominic Lindsay.

All presenters emphasised to students the importance of volunteering, making contacts with industry professionals and getting involved in ECU industry competitions.

Bruno also pointed out that creating a positive image through good grooming and appropriate dress are keys to getting noticed by potential employers.

Students entered a prize draw to win a $100 Myer gift voucher and enjoyed pizza and drinks afterwards.
