Academic writing consultant
Dr John Hall is the Faculty of Business and Law’s Academic Writing Consultant (AWC). John has a part-time (50%) position under the direction of the Associate Dean Research, Professor Grant Michelson.Whenever possible John collaborates with faculty research supervisors.
John provides editorial support to research postgraduates (PGs) – PhD, Masters by research, and Honours – with their research proposals, theses, and journal or book chapter publications. He also provides editorial support to early career researchers in FBL.
How does John assist postgraduate researchers?
John’s role is essentially an educative one, aimed at working with postgraduate authors to improve their writing skills. The improvement comes through 'conversations' in which John presents feedback to and discusses with an author her/his purpose, audience and appropriate writing style.Research postgraduates can contact John about:
• individual or small-group meetings (by appointment)
• writing well workshops – open to all research postgraduates in the faculty
• resources available via this website
• referral to recommended commercial proofreaders

Dr John Hall
