Dr Megan Huggett, of the Centre for Marine Ecosystem Research, was recently awarded an ECU Early Career Researcher Award for her research on characterising marine microbial diversity and function in key benthic habitats of Western Australia. This research effort will focus on the microbial communities associated with both corals and sponges across a large biogeographical swathe of the WA coastline, and will represent some of the first research of this kind to be done in Western Australia. Megan’s research will involve colleagues Professor Paul Lavery and Dr Christin Säwström from within the Centre for Marine Ecosystem Research and also external colleagues from both the Western Australian Museum and the University of Oklahoma.
