Clinical Nursing and Midwifery Research Centre

At the Clinical Nursing and Midwifery Research Centre, our purpose is to facilitate the conduct of clinically driven nursing and midwifery research that is relevant and meaningful to practising nurses and midwives.

Our centre currently focuses on five areas:

  • Safety and quality in nursing: This includes issues related to staffing models, nursing roles, enhanced information and systems support, the use of evidence, processes and policies, leadership, staff wellbeing, and education;
  • Psychosocial nursing care and the use of complementary therapies: This relates to the psychological health and quality of life outcomes in a range of acute, chronic and life threatening conditions;
  • Nursing and midwifery clinical skills education: This relates to the transfer of evidence based knowledge into clinical practice through the use of innovative teaching practices such as simulated learning and information communication technology. This would include investigation into clinical decision making for undergraduates students within the practice setting;
  • The role of nursing in symptom management: This relates to the assessment, treatment and management of unpleasant symptoms of illness, disability and treatment such as pain, nausea, shortness of breath and fatigue; and 
  • Cancer nursing: The specific care and nursing management of patients with a diagnosis of cancer.
