Facilities

Infrastructure

The Survey Research Centre is equipped with the following state-of-the-art facilities:

  • a computer assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) facility with twenty permanent interviewer work stations that are networked with a supervisor;
  • Surveycraft and Dimensions software that enables an innovative, cost effective and flexible means of capturing and processing questionnaire data; and
  • web interviewing facilities.

Data security

The computer aided telephone interviewing (CATI) system is contained within ECU’s computing network. The University has significant physical and electronic security as part of its requirements to meet research and database maintenance generally. Our IT support staff take every precaution to maintain the security of all electronic files held by the Faculty of Computing, Health and Sciences.

Technology and management control mechanisms include:

  • antivirus tools;
  • multi-layered firewalls;
  • daily back-ups;
  • encryption/SSL;
  • password controls;
  • electronic IDs; and
  • change controls.

At an individual level all Survey Research Centre staff are required to sign a confidentiality agreement regarding the use of name-identified data. The Centre works under the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research.
