Systems and Intervention Research Centre for Health

The Systems and Intervention Research Centre for Health (SIRCH) has the primary focus of developing and testing approaches that aim to improve equity of, and access to, affordable, safe and high quality healthcare.

SIRCH combines intervention-orientated research and evaluation and systems improvement in the following domains: policy and planning; legislation; workforce development; and education and training.

SIRCH is particularly focused on prevention and early intervention in a range of systems where interventions are required, e.g. families, schools, communities, hospitals and other health care settings. Applying healthcare simulation and scenario based learning to improve system responses is a key platform. The Centre aims to achieve positive change through engagement with the community and industry by focusing on initiatives that prepare service providers to apply theory to practice within health care settings that directly improve the health consumers' and carers' experiences.

SIRCH's research ideas are community identified and its projects are co-driven by the community.

Strategies:

  • Developing new models of health care delivery and health system planning;
  • Creating integrated and sustainable university community engagement initiatives that build both individual and social capacity and thus strengthen the health workforce
  • Conducting research to help devise new strategic health policy directions;
  • Designing innovative models for cross-sectoral cooperation and collaboration to improve service provision, including safe and high quality clinical care; and
  • Investigating new directions for interprofessional learning and service learning that help professionals understand issues within larger systemic contexts, beyond clinical roles.
