ARIA award for ECU grad

WAAPA graduate Sarah Mckenzie has joined music’s elite, winning the ARIA Fine Art Award for Best Jazz Album.

The ARIA’s are the top event for the Australian music industry, with the ARIA Fine Art and ARIA Artisan Awards announced before the main awards ceremony on Thursday, 29 November.

Sarah won for her jazz album, Close Your Eyes, produced by ABC Music. The album is a classic collection of blues, jazz and pop songs and includes classics such as The Way You Look Tonight and At Last.

The 24 year old is a pianist, vocalist and composer and has already received acclaimed success for her debut album, Don’t Tempt Me.

Winning the award puts Sarah alongside an elite list of 2012 nominees, which includes Goyte, Missy Higgins and Guy Sebastian.
