Congratulations to ECU Health and Wellness Institute researchers, Dr Prue Cormie and Dr Michael Baker who are among this year’s winners of the Cancer Council’s Western Australia Research Grants.

The research grants provided by the Cancer Council are part of a record $2.7 million in funding, which aims at supporting the work of WA's young cancer researchers.

Dr Cormie was awarded a $225,000 Postdoctoral Research Fellowship which will allow her to examine exercise as medicine in the management of cancer as well as help conduct a number of trials involving patients affected by a range of various cancers.

Dr Baker was awarded the Suzanne CavanaghEarly Career Investigator Grant. The grant worth $24,000, will allow him to look at the effects of whole-body vibration therapy on bone loss in breast cancer survivors. Dr Baker will use the funding to recruit 50 women into the trial, allowing him to track the changes in the women’s bone density using blood samples.
