End of year public seminar
Thursday, 25 November 2010
On 25 November the Centre held its second 'end of year public seminar' at Edith Cowan House, which is situated on the grounds of Edith Cowan University. This year our guest speaker was Professor Adam Graycar from the Australian National University, Canberra and he spoke on Social Inclusion and the challenge of making social inclusion a normative value for all citizens.
Adam Graycar is Professor of Public Policy, Director of the Research School of Social Sciences (RSSS) and Dean of the Australian National Institute for Public Policy. He commenced as Director of RSSS on 1 October 2010. Adam has had a long experience in policy making, research, and research management at the most senior levels in Australia. He has also represented Australia in various international fora (OECD, UN etc). He has held visiting professor positions at University of California, Berkeley, University of London, Yale University, University of Hong Kong, and National University of Singapore. He has two doctorates from the University of New South Wales, is the author of 200 scholarly publications, and is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences of Australia.
We were very fortunate to have such an esteemed academic as our guest. The seminar was very well supported with a BBQ lunch following the seminar. Adam spent considerable time meeting with staff and postgraduate students discussing their research and providing insights on social inclusion. We are most grateful for Adam’s visits and his generosity in sharing his experiences and insights with staff, students and the public.
