The Critical Horizons Regional Futures Series is an ongoing program of conferences and seminars that look at emerging global trends and their potential impact on regional communities in the south west. The series of events offers an opportunity for the regional community to engage with experts and debate issues that could affect their future.
In October 2010, we hosted a Critical Horizons seminar on the issue of mental health, which included presentations by 2010 Australian of the Year, Professor Patrick McGorry and the 2010 WA Australian of the Year, ECU's Foundation Chair of Ageing and Alzheimer's disease, Professor Ralph Martins.
More than 200 people from across the region attended, bringing together experts within the health sector as well as members of the public and government policy decision-makers. We also hosted the three-day 2010 conference for Critical Horizons, which brought together leading academics, community leaders, thinkers and experts to discuss the future of the south west region.
The benefits of the series are diverse, including fostering a sense of location and community, providing expertise to address pressing local and regional issues, opening the University up to key south west stakeholders and linking these with community members, and the ongoing promotion of our campus.
