Get Involved

There are many ways that both staff and students at ECU can get involved in environmental initiatives on and off campus, from participating in research and educational activities, discussion or working groups, helping out at Orientation Days or helping to run environmental programs on campus.

If you are passionate about our environment and want to get involved, contact the University Environment Officer, or for more information on initiatives for students click here.

Green Office Program - What is it?

ECU's Green Office Program is a means of increasing staff awareness of the environmental impacts associated with daily work practices and to encourage and facilitate environmentally friendly alternatives. It is also an excellent opportunity for staff and postgraduate students to engage in problem solving and work as a team to achieve change.

Program Aims:
  • Raise staff awareness of the environmental impacts that result from daily office activities and practices
  • Provide sustainable alternatives to high impact office practices
  • Reduce the University's overall environmental impact through staff education and behavioural change

How to get Involved

At the heart of this program are the Green Office Reps, staff who volunteer a small amount of time every week or two in order to carry out work for the Program. This may involve:
  • Undertaking assessments or surveys,
  • Disseminating environmental information,
  • Draw attention to environmental issues within their area, and
  • Promoting initiatives such as recycling, green purchasing and energy and water conservation to other staff.

A Green Office Rep is the link between the Environment Officer and their work area, ensuring the successful implementation of the Program.

Benefits for Reps include:
  • A broadened understanding of environmental issues.
  • Working in a team to achieve behavioural change
  • You will have the opportunity to develop your leadership and communication skills
  • Ample training and networking opportunities offered
  • You will gain a sense of satisfaction from making a real difference to the environment.

If you would like to know more or to register your interest, contact the Environment Officer on 6304 2650 or environment@ecu.edu.au. Then speak with your Head of School or Administrative Centre and confirm that they are happy for you to be the Green Office Representative for your area.
