Integrated Transport
What is Integrated Transport Planning?
Integrated Transport Planning is an integrated or holistic approach to transport planning that takes into account options for public transport, walking and cycling and does not focus unduly on road systems. It is an inclusive approach that provides opportunities for community involvement in the planning of multi-modal transport systems.
ECU’s Integrated Transport Plan
In 2002 A Transport Reference Group (TRG) was formed to investigate alternative transport opportunities at ECU’s Joondalup and Mount Lawley campuses.
The TRG comprised 25 members drawn from ECU's staff and student
population, local government authorities and the Department for Planning and
Infrastructure (DPI).
It was found that a relatively high (~75%) of ECU’s staff and students either drive their own car to University or come as a passenger. The aim of the TRG was to come up with ways to encourage other modes of transport, such as cycling, walking and public transport by removing the barriers and making these alternatives to car use more attractive.
In 2003 ECU published its Integrated Transport Plan, outlining the recommendations of the group and strategies to pursue integrated alternative transport options at ECU.
