Book Returns Policy

BOOKSHOP RETURNS POLICY

ECU Bookshop Return Policy is in accordance with the Department of Consumer & Employment Protection Refund Policy and Guidelines as follows:

“Please choose carefully: Customers have no legal right of a refund if they have simply changed their mind or made the wrong selection.

Exchanges and refunds can be given where goods are faulty, wrongly described, different from a sample shown to you or don’t do what they are supposed to.”

Textbook Returns  

It is ECU Bookshop’s Policy to offer a Credit Note for textbook returns prior to the “Financial Penalty Date” set by the University under the following circumstances:

  • Withdrawal from unit of study
  • Incorrect textbook purchased for unit of study
  • Exemption granted from a unit of study

Before a Credit Note is issued Customers are required to:

  • Produce sales receipt provided as proof of purchase
  • Ensure Goods are in mint condition
  • Provide evidence of amended enrolment where applicable

Please note ECU Internal Publications are firm sale only, in compliance with copyright legislation requirements.

General Book Returns

It is ECU Bookshop’s Policy to offer a Credit Note for general book returns in exceptional circumstances only.

Before a Credit Note is issued Customers are required to:

  • Produce sales receipt provided as proof of purchase
  • Ensure goods are in mint condition

Faulty and Misbound Books

 All misbound and faulty goods will be exchanged or refunded in accordance with the Department of Consumer & Employment Protection Refund Policy and Guidelines as follows:

“Exchanges and refunds can be given where goods are faulty, wrongly described, different from a sample shown to you or don’t do what they are supposed to.”

Goods covered by Manufacturer’s Warranty

Goods covered by a manufacturer’s warranty will be accepted for repair or replacement by the Bookshop on behalf of the manufacturer provided the goods were sold by the Bookshop. Proof of purchase is required.


Second Hand Book Policy

Conditions for purchase of second hand books

  • Second-hand books prescribed for the current semester may be purchased from ECU Bookshops on Bunbury, Joondalup and Mount Lawley campuses, Monday to Friday, commencing two weeks prior to the start of semester  providing stock is available.
  • Second hand books may not be reserved.
  • Second hand books are sold firm sale and are not returnable.
  • Second hand books are sold as is, the Bookshop accepts no responsibility for the condition of the book/books or any associated material.

Conditions for sales of second hand books

  • ECU Bookshops will purchase second-hand books prescribed for the current semester, from ECU Students only for a 4 week period – commencing two weeks prior to semester start between 10.00am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
  • ECU Student ID card must be presented when selling second hand books to the Bookshop.
  • An ID form (Download here) to be completed with details of book/books for sale .
  • Books must be in good condition (Bookshop decision is final)
  • Buy Back Quotas have been determined by the Bookshop.
  • Prescribed texts for the current semester only will be purchased.
  • ECU Publications (Unit Readers etc) will not be accepted by the Bookshop for second hand sale.
  • Second hand books must not be taken beyond a specially designated area near the entrance to each Bookshop.

Students not wishing to sell their books to the Bookshop may choose to place an advertisement on the Student Guild website, www.ecuguild.org.au or on the Student Discussion Board at https://www.ecu.edu.au/forums/ .
