Background

The ECUBUG was formed in 2002 by cyclists on the Joondalup campus who
are interested in improving access and facilities for bicycle commuters at ECU.

Until recently, ECU has done little to provide for bicycle commuters other than
install outdated and insecure “toast rack” style bicycle racks, often in
inappropriate locations. Students and staff in the new science building at
Joondalup had no facilities for parking bikes and faced ongoing complaints for
bringing bikes into offices and labs.

Fortunately, the Facilities Management Office at Joondalup were very receptive
to suggestions from students and staff to alleviate the problem and were keen
to establish ongoing consultation with cyclists. The ECUBUG was formed to
represent all cyclists at ECU on issues of importance to bicycle commuters.
